A total solar eclipse swept across Europe on Wednesday, delivering a celestial spectacle to millions of viewers from Greenland to Spain. While the event enchanted crowds, the news cycle also featured a sharp escalation in Middle East tensions and growing concerns over American Airlines’ automated booking systems.
U.S. President Donald Trump claimed the United States has “total control” of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway vital for global energy supplies. Iranian officials countered that the strait remains closed and will not reopen until Washington accepts Tehran’s conditions for ending the war.
The Islamic Republic’s Supreme National Security Council laid out nine specific demands for reopening the waterway. These include lifting U.S. sanctions, releasing frozen Iranian assets, and a ban on U.S. and Israeli vessels. The standoff has placed maritime traffic at a fraction of its normal levels.

Pakistan, currently acting as a mediator between Washington and Tehran, stated it remains “optimistic” about reaching an agreement. Officials in Islamabad acknowledged the “considerable distance” between the two sides but said they would continue diplomatic efforts.
American Airlines Rebooking Roulette
Separately, American Airlines is grappling with technical issues stemming from its new artificial intelligence booking system. The tool, known as AURA, automatically removes passengers from flights to rebook them on later connections when it believes they will miss their connection. The problem arises when the system is wrong.
Travelers have found themselves unable to board flights even when they arrive at the gate with time to spare. The system occasionally goes rogue and decide to book travelers on later flights without permission.

Amazon has introduced a new order confirmation email format that is confusing many customers. Instead of listing specific items, the emails now use vague categories like “Delivered: 1 Wireless Item” or “Your Automotive and Pantry items are here.”
Customers are reporting that the new format makes it difficult to identify exactly what has been shipped. On Reddit, one user complained that the system had rebooked them on a later flight without permission, a sentiment shared by travelers facing similar glitches with American Airlines’ automated systems.
