— England won the bronze medal at the 2026 World Cup, defeating France 6-4 in the third-place playoff on 18 July 2026, at Miami Stadium in Florida. Bukayo Saka scored a hat-trick for England, and Kylian Mbappé netted twice for France.

— The Argentina’s football team may have won its semi-final against England but it is facing the possibility of sanctions after several members of the team waved a Falklands banner in the wake of their win. The sign, which read “Las Malvinas son Argentinas,” or “The Falklands are Argentine” and apparently brought by fans to the stadium, was carried onto the pitch during the full-time celebrations. Doing so It risked putting the team in breach of the International Football Association Board’s rules on political flags. The banner was condemned by multiple politicians and several suggested that the players involved – Argentine’s Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso – should be suspended from Sunday’s final against Spain. FIFA, football’s governing body, said it was “assessing match reports” before deciding whether to punish Argentina over the incident.
