Cunard announced a major transformation of its flagship liner Queen Victoria, with a three‑week dry‑dock overhaul scheduled for October 17‑November 5, 2026, at Damen Shiprepair in Rotterdam.
Refreshed public spaces and new dining concept
The ship’s Grand Lobby will be refreshed to heighten the sense of arrival that the cruise line’s brand is known for. The iconic Queens Room is also slated for a redesign, aiming to preserve its role as the venue for Cunard’s traditional Afternoon Tea, live music and gala evenings.
Another highlight is the introduction of The Pavilion Wellness Café, the third such venue across Cunard’s fleet. The café will serve breakfast, lunch and daytime meals, focusing on plant‑based dishes while also offering sustainably sourced meat, fish and dairy. This follows similar openings on Queen Anne in 2024 and Queen Elizabeth in 2025.
Cabin upgrades and new staterooms
Guests in the Grill Suites will see upgraded furnishings and detailing, with the Queens Grill and Princess Grill Suites receiving a refreshed look. The upgrades are described as “the ultimate in comfort and style at sea.”
Eight additional Britannia‑class staterooms will be added, including three Britannia Deluxe Oceanview cabins that feature floor‑to‑ceiling windows for panoramic views. The new cabins will go on sale on July 20, with voyages beginning November 11, 2026.
Queen Victoria is expected to resume service on November 7, 2026, and will then operate a 2027 itinerary that includes the Mediterranean, Norwegian fjords, the Canary Islands and other destinations.
For travelers accustomed to Cunard’s classic British elegance, the changes represent a modest evolution rather than a radical overhaul. While the ship’s signature atmosphere remains, the added wellness café and updated cabins signal an effort to meet contemporary expectations for health‑focused dining and modern comfort, without sacrificing the brand’s heritage.
President Katie McAlister said the ship “has always held a special place in the hearts of our guests,” and emphasized that every decision in the refit was made with “deep respect for the heritage and charm” of the vessel.

She added that the enhancements aim to ensure the ship “continues to deliver the timeless luxury she is known and loved for.”
The revitalized Grand Lobby is designed to reinforce the timeless elegance that defines Queen Victoria, creating a more expansive entry experience that subtly guides guests toward the ship’s historic heart. By updating finishes and lighting, the lobby will accentuate architectural details that have long contributed to the vessel’s distinct character.
In the Queens Room, the reimagining will retain the space’s essential function for Afternoon Tea while incorporating modern touches that improve acoustics for live music and enhance visual appeal for gala events. This careful balance ensures that the room continues to serve as a cultural hub where tradition and contemporary style coexist.
The Pavilion Wellness Café’s menu reflects a broader shift in luxury travel toward sustainability, featuring a spectrum of plant‑based options alongside responsibly sourced animal proteins. Its presence shows Cunard’s commitment to offering guests choices that align with evolving dietary preferences without compromising the quality expected of a premium cruise experience.
Upgrades to the Queens Grill and Princess Grill Suites involve the introduction of sumptuous furnishings that combine classic British motifs with contemporary comfort. Sophisticated detailing, such as refined woodwork and elegant textiles, will raise the ambiance, delivering an intimate setting that feels both familiar and refreshed.
The addition of Britannia Deluxe Oceanview staterooms expands the ship’s premium offering, granting guests an uninterrupted view of the sea through floor‑to‑ceiling glazing. This design choice enhances the sense of immersion while providing a private, spacious retreat that complements the vessel’s overall aesthetic.
By scheduling the refit in the autumn, Cunard ensures that the ship returns to service just before the start of the busy winter sailing season, allowing the newly refined spaces to be showcased to guests on upcoming voyages. The timing also aligns with the broader 2027 program, which will see the vessel handling iconic regions such as the Mediterranean and the Norwegian fjords, offering travelers a blend of historic charm and newly introduced amenities.
Overall, the transformation shows a strategic approach that respects the vessel’s storied past while integrating contemporary elements that respond to modern traveler expectations. The enhancements are positioned to attract both loyal Cunard enthusiasts and new guests seeking a luxury cruising experience that honors tradition and adopts forward‑looking design.
